Emeritus Professor T.H. Pigford
Professor Pigford joined the University in 1959 to become the first
Chairman of the new Department of Nuclear Engineering, for the period
1959-1964. He was appointed again as Department Chairman for the
periods 1974-1979 and 1984-1988.

Professor Hans M. Mark (Retired)
Professor Mark joined the University in 1961. He served as chairman
of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and administrator of the
Berkeley Research Reactor from 1964 to 1969. Hans M. Mark was the
13th secretary of the Air Force.

Emeritus Professor Lawrence M. Grossman
Professor Grossman joined the University in 1949 to become Chairman
of the Department for the period 1969-1974.

Professor Donald R. Olander, James
Fife Chair in Engineering
Professor Olander joined the University in 1958 to become Chairman
of the Department for the period 1980-1984. He has won the following
major awards: National Academy of Engineering, Special issue of
the Journal of Nuclear Materials in honor of D. Olander

Emeritus Professor T. Kenneth Fowler
Professor Fowler joined the University in 1988 to become Chairman
of the Department for the period 1988-1994. He has won the following
major awards: National Academy of Sciences and the Berkeley Citation.

Professor William E. Kastenberg,
Daniel M. Tellep Distinguished Professor of Engineering
Professor Kastenberg joined the faculty at UCLA in 1966 and after
28 years, returned to Berkeley to become Chancellor's Professor
and Chairman of the Department of Nuclear Engineering for the period
1995-2000. He has won the following major awards: National Academy
of Engineering, Fellow of American Nuclear Society, Fellow of American
Association for the Advancement of Science, Chancellor's Professorship,
Arthur Holly Compton Award by the American Nuclear Society.

Professor Per
F. Peterson
Professor Peterson joined the University in
1990 to become Chairman of the Department for the period 2000-2005.
He has won the following major awards: NSF Presidential Young Investigator
and Fellow of the American Nuclear Society.
